18th Annual Aurora Veterans Salute Celebrates Aurora’s Military Heritage

East Denver LIVING WELL Magazine

America’s veterans have protected our constitutional freedoms, seen unfathomable battlefields and put families and home life on hold to serve our nation. These great sacrifices compel us to say “thank you,” in a meaningful way. It is for this reason that the city of Aurora holds the Veterans Salute recognition luncheon where more than 700 veterans receive a ceremonial and thoughtful tribute.

In 2012, the Aurora Veterans Salute will be held on Thurs., Nov. 1, 2012 at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. This 18th annual event will feature a formal program including a special salute to Aurora’s military heritage. Those in attendance will enjoy a nostalgic look back at the people and missions based at Lowry, Fitzsimons and Buckley bases as well as the Air Reserve Personnel Center. Aurora is able to continually cultivate living history from veterans because so many of those who served at these bases chose to make the city home.

“Aurora’s rich history with the military causes us to take a particular interest in showing the upmost respect for service men and women,” says Sheila Anthony, event organizer. “We are proud to give thanks for their sacrifice; and the museum setting on the former Lowry Air Force Base offers us the perfect nostalgic backdrop to express our appreciation.”

The event master of ceremonies is KEZW 1430 AM Radio Station Manager & Morning Show Host Rick Crandall. Civic and military leaders are expected to be on hand to honor the veterans. The Aurora Veterans Salute is proudly presented by the Aurora Center for Active Adults with Presenting Sponsor Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital and Presenting Media Sponsor KEZW Studio 1430 AM.

Veterans Salute registration begins August 6 at AuroraGov.org/Salute. Tickets are $20 per person purchased before October 2, and $25 if purchased after that date.
