Senior citizens can take advantage of free health screenings, socialize with friends, and meet new ones at the 22nd Annual Older Americans Information and Health Fair. Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is hosting the event in partnership with Community Council of Greater Dallas, City of Dallas Park and Recreation, and the Dallas Police Department. The free event takes place May 5 and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centennial Hall in Fair Park. It will feature free entertainment and a wealth of helpful information.
The theme for this year’s fair is “Blaze a Trail.” Attendees are encouraged to save on parking and ride DART’s Green Line to Fair Park Station.
DART Fares and Passes
DART Senior Citizen Annual Pass holders have everything they need to take DART to the Older Americans and Information Health Fair.
For those who are not annual pass holders, reduced fares are available for senior citizens ages 65 or older (with a valid DART photo ID), non-paratransit certified persons with disabilities (with valid DART photo ID) and Medicare card holders. Reduced Local Day Passes are only $2.50 each. Everyone aged 15-64 pays regular fare and a Local Adult Day Pass is $5. Local Midday Passes (9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) are just $1.75 each.
If you do not have a DART Senior Citizen Photo ID card, you will be able to obtain one at the health fair. You must bring proof of age, such as a driver’s license, passport, or other substantiating documentation. There is a $2 fee to cover the cost of the photo.
The Senior Photo ID cards are also available at the DART Store, located at DART headquarters at 1401 Pacific Ave. (Akard Station). The DART Store is open Monday through Friday, and photo IDs are made between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. only.
Enjoy Level Boarding
The center car of every DART Rail vehicle is a low-floor section that offers level boarding with the rail platform. DART’s new fleet of buses also has low-floor sections and is equipped with ramps that deploy for level boarding from the curb.
Please call 214-979-1111 for information on riding DART.
May 5, the date of the fair, is during Older Americans Month — an annual commemoration of older Americans’ contributions to the nation.
