Girlfriends: You’re Invited!

At CampExperience™, Get “S’More” Inspiration to Custom Design your Life

Denver LIVING WELL Magazine

Camp. Remember the feeling? A little nervous at first––then joy. Abandon. Away from the demands of schedules, parents, homework––free to navigate canoe races, stitch crafty knapsacks, devour S’mores under the stars, and giggle with a newfound best friend the next bunk over, each of you blissfully exhausted.

Now you can re-capture that feeling at CampExperience. Hosted near Colorado’s Rocky Mountains at the Keystone Resort, fun, adventure and discovery beckons. This year’s annual event takes place on Oct. 4 – 6, 2013. It’s camp for grown-ups––girlfriends, that is. CampExperience is a one-of-a-kind retreat where busy women take time out to play, and to get inspired, get connected, sharpen skills and build alliances. (Not the kind found on Survivor––but authentic, lasting friendships!)

For two-and-a-half days, women across varied seasons of life, each in search of, “what’s next?” explore the question together. So what’s on the agenda? There are several “tracks” from which to choose––creative, leadership, success skills and optimum health.  Combine them and your day could include a marketing workshop, a fly-fishing excursion, Zumba, and a chance to FUNdraise to help other women––capped off by fireside S’mores with a few new BFFs. That’s the CampExperience!

Where Purpose Meets Passion: Dreams, empowered

Why is it so critical for women to get away? “In today’s world, we’re so programmed to constantly keep moving. Plus, our circle of friends will often tell us what we want to hear. Getting away allows us to take time off from being a mom, a professional, a wife–– and just be a girlfriend,” says Betsy Wiersma, founder, mentor, and lead girlfriend.

Wiersma and her team encourage women to dream big, and to custom design their own lives. “We talk about making choices, and those are different for everyone,” says Wiersma; herself a former high-powered executive who embraced entrepreneurship after her daughter arrived on the scene. She launched CampExperience so she could toggle motherhood and a professional life––on her own terms.

“Everywhere I turn, women long to hear a message––that they can pursue their passions.  At CampExperience, we give them permission to try something new, to refine their vision and reflect on their purpose. And during the weekend they naturally connect with women who will encourage them along they way!”

Women who have, sharing with women in need

A vital component to the CampExperience includes reaching out into the community.  “Empowering others is part of what brings us all together, so we also inspire women to collaborate for the common good,” says Wiersma. To date, they’ve raised $250,000 for various charitable partners––always non-profit organizations, such as Dress for Success, that align with CampExperience’s mission to empower women with education and tools.  “It’s never a hand out; it’s a hand up.”

From the Speakers to the CEO:  Everyone’s Just a Girlfriend at CampExperience

Throughout the weekend, CampExperience is host to a range of local and national speakers, each with a story to tell and wisdom to share. “The coolest thing about our speakers is this: they don’t preach from a lofty place, then disappear. They walk the stage and experience the rest of the weekend alongside everyone else. Here––we’re all just girlfriends!”

Weirsma’s enthusiasm for her “baby,” now in it’s seventh year, is infectious. “I just want to invite every woman to enjoy this fun, life affirming, life changing experience. I want them to follow their hearts, and to reinvent the life they’ve always dreamed of!”

And she ought to know, because as executive director of CampExperience, wife, swim meet mom, and girl-scout leader, she’s designed just the perfect one for herself.
