In a land far, far away… a young man had just graduated from Loma Linda University dental school in Loma Linda, California. In August of 1981, he established his first dental office on Rusk Street in Sherman, Texas. He knew no one living in the Texoma area but his family of dental patients grew as his dental expertise became known. Five years later, Dr. Shoemaker and his staff, along with his family of patients, had out-grown the Rusk facility and they moved to a new location on North Travis Street. Now twenty nine years later, Dr. Shoemaker finds himself moving into his own spacious General, Implant and Cosmetic dental facility at 1609 North Highway 75 in Sherman, Texas.
His North Highway 75 office will allow him and his fantastic dental staff ample room to care for their family of patients; which also emphasizes his ability to treat complex cases in one office location from start to finish with more operatories and a spacious waiting room. His patients will experience more conveniences while checking in and checking out of his new facility with a refreshment bar in the waiting room, along with multiple areas to discuss patient’s dental needs, treatment and or financing. His new location also has multiple large windows allowing natural lighting to enhance the feeling of openness and relaxation. The ample parking and a porte-cochère will make it easier for loading and unloading patients.
He is excited about his new surgical suite which has a roomy environment for complex operations in implant dentistry, bone grafting, teeth extractions and conscious IV sedation. The suite will give his six plus staff members, including Dr. Dashty (his anesthesiologist) and nurse Reese, adequate room to perform their conscious IV sedation surgeries and will allow his patients a peaceful atmosphere while in their care. It also is an ideal space for him to do same day surgery (teeth in a day) for select cases. In addition, the surgery suite is an excellent area for Dr. Shoemaker to perform the new fixed (non-removable) implant restoration, a state-of-the-art implantation that never breaks chips or stains. It is far superior to other implant restorations available and dramatically improves a patient’s ability to chew, eat and speak normally.
Dr. Shoemaker and his wonderful staff believe in treating his patients as family. He considers dentistry an extremely personal practice based on the foundation of trust; when you enter his building consumers trust him with their dental health. That is why Dr. Shoemaker has created a personal method of dentistry where he gives his patients a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan that will be a long term solution to their dental problems. He does not believe in a quick fix! Quick fixes usually mean you are redoing something within a five year period which means failure to Dr. Shoemaker and is never acceptable. Dr. Shoemaker says he often sees patients that have gone through the dental wringer and finds that frustrating. His philosophy is to determine a patient’s dental need and to present dental treatment that will result in long-term dental health.
Whether it was on Rusk Street, North Travis Street, or now at 1609 North Highway 75; Dr. Shoemaker’s goal for each patient who has walked or does walk through his doors is they get to enjoy a beautiful functioning smile and that they feel and look better. A beautiful smile goes a long way for anyone of any age. A smile is the first thing anyone notices when meeting a new person for the first time. Dr. Shoemaker and his staff find creating a beautiful forever smile for their family of patients is the most rewarding part of their profession. Dr. Shoemaker says being a dentist is more than a job; it is an opportunity to better people’s lives and he and his staff get to do it every day!
His dental team has grown to include his wife, Tammy, as his office manager, whom he enjoys having around to assist in every aspect of the practice. His son, Stephen, welcomes each patient as they enter the practice and guides them through their dental journey in the office. Stephanie and Angela are Dr. Shoemaker’s awesome assistants who attend to every patient’s needs in the operatories. They are highly trained and have been credentialed in all facets of general dentistry by the International Congress of Oral Implantologists for dental implant auxilaries. His hygienist, Caroline, is the best ever as her patients’ results after treatment are remarkable. Sherry the insurance secretary and Yovanda both work part time; she and Yovanda who is bilingual help with the running of the dental practice. Dr. Shoemaker appreciates this remarkable team with a combined 60 years of dental experience and their devotion to their patients and the dental practice as a whole.
Dr. Shoemaker has big plans for 2016. He wants to be the ultimate dental resource for the Texoma community by hosting monthly seminars on complex dental issues in his new dental facility. His goal is to give the public legitimate, knowledgeable and trustworthy information when it comes to dental problems and questions. He hopes to provide people with necessary education, rather than letting them fend for themselves. Dr. Shoemaker feels there is far too much bogus information to sift through on the internet. He would like to be the information outlet that people can rely on.
Dr. Shoemaker has the resume, but he walks the walk as well. He began his dental practice on Rusk Street flat broke and grew his business based on the pure love and passion for his field. The father of three boys continues to set an example for his sons- an example of hard work, dedication and giving back. He and Tammy have been married 37 years, an accomplishment in today’s world. Dr. Shoemaker is more than a dentist- his practice is more than an office. He is setting the bar high; he aims to be the best the area has to offer.
