Enjoying the seasons at the Waterford

ENJOYING THE SEASONS AT THE WATERFORD

By Sondra Marshall, Greater Springfield LIVING WELL Magazine

We all love summer and fall and some of you might think you would rather be in your home through these seasons. Let’s think about that for a moment. Even though you might be getting outside a bit more because the weather is nice ask yourself these questions.

  1. Am I getting balanced meals every day
  2. Do I see people daily
  3. Am I going out to fun events
  4. Do I have to depend on others for doctor appointments or grocery store trips
  5. Is it harder to clean my home

We find it is so much better and easier to make a move during the nice months rather than wait until winter. It is a smoother transition for the prospective resident and anyone who might be helping.

Keeping that in mind, The Waterford at Ironbridge offers three meals daily, a very full activity calendar and transportation. Every resident gets weekly housekeeping with flat linen service.

You have the opportunity to visit with your neighbors during meals as well as throughout the day and evening. We tell our residents this is your time to have fun…let us worry about the chores.

When you walk into our building you can feel the happiness and great energy, it is infectious. We always have many activities going on; however, our summers are packed with activities. Just to give you a glimpse: May started with Cinco de Mayo, then there was super bingo. Candlelight dinners are a monthly event; we had a wonderful Mother’s Day followed by our annual Spring Fling and we ended with a Memorial Day event… and those were just our BIG events for May. We also have daily activities planned. You can do as much or as little as you like.

If you think you might miss your garden or flowers, that’s not a problem at The Waterford. We have areas all around our building full of flowers. We encourage our residents to get involved. Some help plant, water and weed. Other residents just go outside and enjoy the beauty. Again, it is what you want to do.

Age is not a number, but a state of mind. Living at the Waterford affords you the opportunity to do whatever makes you happy, and happiness gives you and the people around you a positive attitude about life.

Spend time chatting with friends, take a leisurely stroll, pursue a new hobby or join in on the many activities that are available. Participating in activities and interacting with other residents your own age keeps your mind active and open to new learning experiences.

Remember, you can fill your day doing whatever you want to do. You are in the driver’s seat and, oh, what a great ride!

The Waterford at Ironbridge has been in Springfield for 11 years. Many of you have watched us grow and participated in our events. If you have never been to The Waterford, please take time and stop in for a visit. It would be our pleasure to show you our beautiful building or have lunch with us. You will have the opportunity to talk with our residents and staff.

I have been with this company since it opened in 2001, I love working here and have learned and shared so much with all the people. It is truly my home away from home. I have laughed and cried with many of the residents and have developed great friendships. Please don’t wait…
