Helping You Recover

Carrus Specialty Hospital is a long-term acute care facility (LTAC) providing intensive care for those who have complex medical needs. It was developed to accommodate patients and assist families in a welcoming atmosphere intended to minimize stress and create opportunities for healing.

Patients come to Carrus Specialty Hospital with many different needs. Some are critically ill, some may be ventilator dependent, some are recovering from surgery, some may have had a stroke, some need intravenous antibiotics, and some require extensive wound care.

While there, patients receive nine to 14 hours per day of intensive nursing care with physician supervision. “At Carrus Specialty Hospital, we have nurses with specialized training and they take a patient from a critical care situation all the way to discharge,” says Director of Clinical Services Marie Johnson, BSN. “So the nurses that you come in with will likely be the same nurses who will be with you until you walk out the door.”

Many patients are referred from a traditional hospital––locally or elsewhere––so that they can experience the benefits of multiple treatments in a carefully structured, individualized treatment program for a longer time, remaining close to home.

Because Carrus Hospitals include LTAC, rehabilitation, sleep lab, and outpatient facilities, professional staff can meet a range of needs. The physician-owned facilities are housed in a state-of-the-art 73,000-square foot building located on Highway 82 west in Sherman. Carrus Hospitals have private rooms and beautiful courtyards to enhance patient comfort and accommodate family needs.

Johnson, who is a certified rehabilitation nurse, helped launch Carrus in 2010. She works to ensure an excellent environment for the Carrus staff which, in turn, provides an excellent quality environment for patients.
