Did you know that Slidell is home to one of the top performing hospitals in the country? Ochsner Medical Center – North Shore was recently named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Ochsner-North Shore was one of only 405 U.S. hospitals recognized based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children’s asthma.

Reaching this level of excellence required daily coordination and teamwork between Ochsner’s physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and the entire clinical team. It’s a well-organized collaboration and commitment to accreditation and positive patient outcomes by day and night clinical teams to follow and excel at the quality measures identified for excellence in continued patient care―regardless of a team member’s shift time, title or job description. This ongoing commitment, in turn, has led to lower patient re-admission rates.

It’s essential that organizations like The Joint Commission make this objective performance data available to the public in order for patients and their families to feel comfortable in their healthcare decisions. A copy of The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report can be found at: www.jointcommission.org/annualreport.aspx.
