A Place to Tell Your Story

Within every resident at Legacy Assisted Living and Memory Care, there is an important story. Each holds triumphs and tragedies, adventures and journeys amid generous components of talent, skills, accomplishments, and dreams. Who we are really doesn’t diminish with age.

Legacy owners Steven and Kimberly Streun know that despite fading memories or physical limitations, the soul continues to sing its song. Their trust in that individualism and uniqueness helps create a remarkably loving and thoughtful environment for their residents. It’s a place where everyone’s story is respected and appreciated.

The Streuns live in Texoma, so they can assure families of diligent oversight and a commitment to their sense of mission. They believe that every life has value and every day holds promise. “We help our residents live meaningfully, with purpose and productivity,” say the Streuns. “Legacy is a place where we engage our residents and the community in mutual activities where contributions are valued and people enjoy being together.”

It’s a bit like an old-fashioned neighborhood. Legacy has an ample front porch with rockers and a vegetable garden in the courtyard. It’s located in Denison within wooded acreage, complete with walking paths. Residents enjoy private rooms with wonderful views of the outdoors.

Inside, the homey ambiance contributes to the family feeling, with a comfortable gathering place, a piano, a hair and nail grooming station, a large kitchen and even a luxurious private spa room. Each room is equipped with cable tv and wireless internet. Residents have access to the TMC community wellness swimming pool. Transportation is available.

Three “home style” meals are served every day. Balanced meals offer nutritional support as well as an opportunity to socialize. Careful attention is given to any dietary restrictions or special diets.

Unlike independent living facilities, Legacy Assisted Living and Memory Care offers the safety and security of 24-hour support and assistance. Keeping residents safe is a top priority, which is why Legacy is equipped with Intel-GE Care Innovations™ Quiet Care® technology. The wireless system notifies staff electronically if unusual movement patterns occur, which can be especially useful when a resident has dementia or Alzheimer’s. Without cameras or microphones, it is almost undetectable, yet provides an added sense of security for residents and their families.

According to Steve, families look for an ideal place for their loved ones. They want to know that their mom or dad is cared for with sensitivity, expertise and kindness at all times. “We deliver on that promise!” he says.

Understandably, families have specific questions and priorities relevant to their loved one’s preferences, health condition and circumstances. It’s important to learn how residents’ needs are assessed, what services are available, whether there are emergency call buttons in every room, if staff provide assistance with medications and personal care, and what activities are planned. The goal, at Legacy, is to help every resident enjoy as much freedom and independence as possible with appropriate and respectful care and support.

Families are sometimes concerned about costs since facilities like Legacy are not covered by Medicare or Medicaid. “The majority of long-term care insurance policies provide benefits,” Streun says. “We’ll help direct families so that they have a number of options to consider.”

Guests are invited to visit Legacy. The Streuns welcome visitors, offering a tour of the grounds and garden and an opportunity to talk with staff and residents. It quickly becomes apparent what a difference their philosophy makes for residents and families.
