Uplift Not Facelift
By Eric N. Tabor, MD, Northshore LIVING WELL Magazine
If you have been thinking about a facelift or another procedure to look younger and lift sagging skin or eyelids but don’t want surgery or downtime there is a new option, Ultherapy.
Ultherapy is the first treatment approved by the FDA to lift and tone sagging skin. This device goes beyond skin tightening and actually targets the deeper layers of tissue targeted in a facelift without surgery.
Ultherapy uses safe and effective ultrasound technology. By depositing ultrasound energy below the skin surface, new collagen is stimulated. The body creates new collagen and causes the skin to lift and tighten over a short period of time.
Collagen is a natural protein that gives the skin a youthful appearance by keeping it toned and tight. Collagen also contributes to the natural elasticity of tissue. As we age, collagen is lost and tissues began to sag under the effects of gravity. Ultherapy triggers a repair process that produces fresh, new collagen.
Ultherapy is not surgery. This noninvasive procedure addresses the skin and layers below the skin which provide support. There is no cutting and no downtime involved. Ultherapy is not meant to replace a facelift. It is, however, a new and viable treatment option for those patients not ready for a facelift or willing to endure the downtime surgery entails.
Ultherapy is not a laser and does not disrupt the skin surface. The ultrasound technology passes through the skin and acts directly on the layers of tissue which provide support and lift.
Ultherapy is safe and cleared by the FDA. Ultrasound technology has a proven track record of safety and has been in use in the medical field for more than 50 years. Tens of thousands of Ultherapy treatments have already been performed safely worldwide.
Each Ultherapy treatment takes about an hour. There is no downtime and no recovery period and you can return to normal activity immediately after the procedure. Most patients require only one treatment and results are seen quickly with ultimate toning seen in two to three months.
Results last but, as should be expected, each individual will age at a different pace. To keep up with the aging process, future touch-ups may be helpful
Ultherapy procedures can produce some discomfort while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This is temporary and a positive signal that the collagen producing tissues have been targeted. Side effects include slight redness for up to an hour following the treatment. A small percentage of patients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch but these are mild and temporary in nature.
Ultherapy is an exciting, safe and effective new treatment option in the fight against aging. No downtime, no surgery and now available on the Northshore.
