Jack E. Zigler, MD is an orthopaedic spine surgeon at the Texas Back Institute and is Co-Director of the Center for Disc Replacement. Dr. Zigler earned his medical degree with honors from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. After an Orthopaedic Surgery residency in New York City, he was one of the first Spine Fellows studying under Dr. Henry Bohlman at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Zigler was Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at USC before moving to Texas in 1996. He is the Past President of ISASS (the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery), Past President of ASIA (the American Spinal Injury Association), and has served on the Board of CSRS (the Cervical Spine Research Society). He is currently serving on the Board of Trustees for the AO, an international non-profit educational organization.
Dr. Zigler implanted the first ProDisc lumbar disc replacements (both one and two level) in the United States. He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles on spinal surgery and disc replacement, and has authored three major textbooks on spine surgery. Over the past twenty-five years, he has taught both cervical and lumbar disc replacement to thousands of spine surgeons globally, and frequently lectures all over the world about disc arthroplasty.
