The Nutrition Company talks wheatgrass – LIVING WELL Magazine

What is Wheatgrass?

By Catherine Wilbert, ND, The Nutrition Company, Northshore LIVING WELL Magazine

Often mistaken for alfalfa or a small piece of your front lawn, wheatgrass can altogether confuse some people. But wheatgrass is simply the young wheat plant. The same wheat that makes up your morning toast is actually mature wheatgrass. Considered a vegetable when harvested in its young stage, wheatgrass can provide a wide range of health benefits.

How do I get these benefits?

The most popular and practical method is to juice the wheatgrass. Taken in one or two ounce shots, nutrients in the dark grass-green shots start absorbing into the tongue almost immediately.

How does it taste, you ask? A little sweet and very fresh––a little like sweet grass.

Why should I take it and how often should I consume it?

As with any nutritional supplement, consistency is key. While daily consumption is optimal, taking wheatgrass several times a week can certainly keep you feeling healthy and energized.

Wheatgrass contains ample amounts of chlorophyll, the photosynthesizing green pigment of plants, and one ounce of wheatgrass juice is equivalent to the nutrients of two pounds of raw fruits and vegetables––WOW!
