The most frequent cause of cataracts is birthdays! The natural aging process can contribute to the condition that causes the lens of your eye to become cloudy, resulting in fuzzy or blurred vision and sometimes, sensitivity to light. Cataracts can occur in one or both eyes. Fortunately, treatment with advanced surgical techniques is effective in restoring clear vision in the majority of cases where no other eye diseases are present.

Cataracts may develop slowly. Without treatment, cataracts will not get better and can cause blindness. Common symptoms include blurry vision, difficulty seeing at night, double vision, faded colors, and glare. Some patients experience frequent prescription changes for their eyewear.

While there is evidence of some hereditary influences, suspected risk factors may or may not be present. Diabetes and other diseases may contribute to cataract formation. Eye injuries, smoking, long-term use of certain steroids, myopia, or intense sun exposure may also be associated with cataract formation.

At RGB Eye Associates, our experienced physicians who specialize in ophthalmology perform no-stitch cataract surgery. Anesthesia relieves any discomfort, but you remain awake during the procedure. Our eye surgeons remove the cataract using a microsurgery technique, dissolving the cataract and implanting a new intraocular lens through a self-sealing incision.

Patients appreciate that with the latest technology, there is frequently no need to wear an eye patch following surgery, that there is a significantly reduced surgery time and a dramatically shorter recovery time. You are able to leave our North Travis Ambulatory Surgery Center in Sherman and return to most of your daily activities with few restrictions the very next day.  There is less discomfort following surgery and fewer post-surgical problems or side effects than with previous methods of cataract removal. Of course, the most obvious advantage is the ability to see well again.

Cataract surgery is the most common eye surgery performed by our ophthalmologists. Patients receive extraordinary care from our skilled physicians and caring staff, without the expense or inconvenience of driving to Dallas or Oklahoma City. Some patients, who are accustomed to putting their families first, are slightly hesitant about the procedure based solely on reluctance to “be any trouble” or “spend the money” on themselves. We believe your friends and loved ones will support your desire to have the clearest vision and the best quality of life possible. Every birthday is a blessing and the ability to see well will help you enjoy them all.

We’re pleased to offer new patients a complimentary cataract screening. A complete medical history and eye exam is important to diagnose and suggest the best treatment for your individual needs. Simply call 903-892-3282.
