One of the conversations I have most often with patients has very little to do with X-rays or MRI scans. Instead, they tell me about the moments they’re missing. They talk about no longer being able to walk their dog around the neighborhood, play on the floor with their grandchildren, travel comfortably, or simply climb the stairs without pain. While arthritis affects the joints, its greatest impact is often on a person’s independence and quality of life.
Those conversations are what continue to inspire my work as an orthopedic surgeon.
As a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, I have dedicated my career to helping patients regain mobility, reduce pain, and return to the activities that bring them joy. My approach is rooted in one simple belief: every patient deserves individualized care that reflects their unique goals, lifestyle, and health needs. No two people experience pain the same way, and no two treatment plans should be exactly alike.
Successful orthopedic care is about much more than performing an operation. It begins with listening. I believe patients should feel heard, informed, and confident in every decision they make. During each consultation, I take the time to understand what matters most to each individual, answer questions honestly, and develop a treatment plan together. Whether surgery is the right answer or not, my goal is always to help patients make the best decision for their long-term health.
One of the greatest rewards of my profession is witnessing the transformation that occurs when someone regains the ability to live without the limitations of chronic joint pain. Watching a patient return to work, enjoy an active retirement, resume recreational activities, or simply walk comfortably again is a reminder that orthopedic surgery is ultimately about restoring lives—not just replacing joints.
Medicine continues to evolve, and I believe innovation should always serve one purpose: improving patient outcomes. That philosophy has led me to pursue advanced training and adopt evidence-based techniques that can enhance recovery while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
As a certified Jiffy Knee™ surgeon, I offer a muscle- and tendon-sparing approach to total knee replacement for appropriate candidates. Unlike traditional techniques that often require cutting important muscles and tendons around the knee, the Jiffy Knee procedure is designed to preserve these structures whenever possible. By minimizing surgical disruption, many patients experience less postoperative pain, earlier mobility, and a quicker return to daily activities. While no single surgical technique is appropriate for everyone, I believe in selecting the approach that best aligns with each patient’s individual anatomy, goals, and expectations.
I am deeply grateful for the trust my patients place in me. Many travel from across the region seeking specialized joint replacement care, and I never take that responsibility lightly. Every patient has a unique story, and it is a privilege to become part of their journey toward improved health and renewed independence.
Being part of Texas Joint Institute allows me to practice in an environment where advanced technology and personalized care go hand in hand. Our team shares my commitment to looking at each patient as an individual, understanding not only what is happening with their joint, but how it is affecting the way they live. I value being part of a team that continues to move orthopedic care forward while never losing sight of what matters most: helping our patients return to the activities and quality of life that are important to them.
My commitment to excellence extends beyond the operating room. Through continuing education, collaboration with colleagues, and thoughtfully incorporating proven advancements in orthopedic surgery, I strive to ensure my patients benefit from the latest evidence-based care. Technical expertise is essential, but I believe it is most meaningful when paired with compassion, humility, and a genuine commitment to serving others.
At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to help people move with greater comfort, confidence, and freedom. Whether my patients hope to return to work, enjoy time with family, stay active in retirement, or simply live without constant pain, I consider it an honor to help them achieve those goals.
Being entrusted with someone’s care is one of the greatest privileges of my profession. My promise to every patient is that I will treat them with the same honesty, respect, and dedication that I would want for my own family. If I can help restore not only their mobility but also their confidence in what their future can look like, then I know we’ve accomplished something truly meaningful.
WHY DOES THE JIFFY KNEE™ WORK SO WELL?
With Jiffy Knee and the soft tissue preservation techniques, Jiffy Knee surgeons DON’T cut ANY muscles or tendons to perform your knee replacement.
Traditional Knee Exposure
Majority of the surgeons cut the quadriceps tendon and then STITCH it back after the surgery. The quadriceps tendon is the work horse muscle after a knee replacement for walking and stairs. Imagine cutting the tendon and being asked to start walking on it.
Jiffy Knee
Jiffy Knee surgeons DO NOT cut the Quadriceps or the VMO muscles. Rather we use special instruments and techniques to “lift” the muscle and slide it. Only the skin and capsule are cut. Surgery time typically takes 30 minutes to implant. This can provide LESS PAIN and QUICKER RECOVERY.
While no single surgical technique is appropriate for every patient, the Jiffy Knee procedure offers a less invasive approach designed to minimize disruption to the muscles and soft tissues surrounding the knee. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Nwannunu today so he can help determine the appropriate procedure for you.
