Aside from the therapists’ skill, one of the most important components of successful physical rehabilitation is the strong support of close family members. Sometimes called “family-centered care,” the thoughtful inclusion of loved ones can help ease anxiety, encourage progress toward goals, and provides an additional link between medical professionals and the patient.

Carrus Rehabilitation Hospital’s mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care with attention to the whole person––mind, body and spirit. They understand that the healing process is different for everyone and are committed to customized care that incorporates each patient’s preferences and life situation to the extent possible.

Individualized treatment plans are geared toward restoring strength and mobility, improving fitness levels so patients can return to their lives with increased confidence in their ability to work, enjoy leisure activities and even climb stairs with greater ease. Because inpatient therapies are intensive, with patients receiving therapy three hours a day, six days a week under a physician-supervised treatment program, encouragement from family members can help patients stay motivated and positive, celebrating every success.

Patients come to Carrus Rehabilitation Hospital following surgery, after an injury or illness, due to a stroke, or to improve chronic orthopedic conditions. In the inpatient setting, family members can help prepare for extended exercises and activities prescribed for “homework” when the patient is released. Carrus staff will also talk with patients and families about ways to ensure safety in the home and maximize surroundings for greatest independence.
